Why choose me to represent you?
I am intensely passionate about criminal justice advocacy and take my job very seriously. Anyone who has worked with me would tell you that I am honest, hard-working and “a fighter.” I understand that if you are coming to me for services or advice, you are likely experiencing some degree of difficulty or stress in your life. I take pride in the empathy I exhibit to my clients, as well as my experience with various kinds of criminal cases.
I am confident that you will feel well-represented if you choose to hire me.
What is my experience?
I have been practicing criminal defense in Montana for over six years and have worked on over 1,000 criminal cases in that time. I have notable trial experience, with acquittals in both serious felony cases and misdemeanor cases. My recent trial experience includes acquittals for clients on the charges of DUI, Sexual Intercourse without Consent, Assault with a Weapon, and Strangulation of a Partner or Family Member.
I have represented clients through many felony criminal charges, including: Deliberate and Negligent Homicide, Sexual Intercourse Without Consent, Sexual Assault, Incest, Kidnapping, Intimidation, Assault with a Weapon, Strangulation of a Partner or Family Member, DUI, Criminal Endangerment, and Criminal Possession of Drugs. I have represented clients through many different misdemeanor charges, including: DUI, Partner or Family Member Assault, Theft, property crimes, and traffic offenses.
Outside of my criminal defense experience, I have represented clients in proceedings for Involuntary Commitments, Orders of Protection, and Expungements. I have limited experience in family law. Lastly, I have also been a team member of a Treatment Court and have extensive experience navigating clients’ substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
I have practiced or am currently practicing in the following counties in Montana: Lewis and Clark, Jefferson, Yellowstone, Carbon, Broadwater, Powell, Cascade, Phillips, Toole, Teton, Hill, Ravalli, Missoula, Mineral, Butte-Silver Bow, Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Powell, Park, and Gallatin.
For the first three years of my career as a licensed attorney, I was employed with the Office of the Public Defender, and I continue to work with indigent clients on a contract basis. Prior to becoming a licensed attorney, I was an intern at a civil law firm, and I also completed my clinical rotation with the Legal Department at Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
What are my educational credentials?
I am a Montana high school graduate and I attended the University of Great Falls, where I obtained my Bachelor’s in Biology. I attended law school at both Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and the University of Montana in Missoula, where I graduated with my Juris Doctor. Go Griz!
What do I do when I’m not in court?
As a Montanan, I am an avid explorer of our beautiful public lands. I thoroughly enjoy hiking our local trails in Helena or venturing into the Bob Marshall Wilderness to do some fly fishing. You may also find me whitewater rafting with my family in Idaho from time to time, taking it easy on the lake on my paddleboard, or visiting our incredible Montana ski resorts. If I’m not doing something outside, I will find some live music or dinner with my friends. My favorite hobby, however, is doing anything that involves my two dogs, Gypsy and Milo.
In addition, I serve as the Board President of Keystone Wellness in Helena, and do my best to be involved in other local organizations that are directed at assisting the underserved.
